How Can I Make This Year's Tournament The Best Ever?
Be at your tournament location at least 30 minutes before start time.
All coaches meet at the Scorer's Table 15 minutes before start time.
Be supportive of your players and teams while being polite and respective of all parties.
Be appreciative of the referees, who are doing their very best to facilite a safe and enjoyable game.
Have fun! Clap & cheer for great play and sportsmanship on both ends of the field.
Tournament Basics
MVSL tournaments follow the Bow Round Robin format. Games begin promptly every half hour. Games run for 25 minutes with a 5-minute break between games. Teams must promptly thank the opposing team and referee, gather their belongings, head for their next game location, take the field and be ready to play, all within 5 minutes. Sounds hard, but not if you stay on task. Just watch it happen!
Each team earns tournament points based on the following:
5 points for a win
3 points for a tie
1 point for each goal scored up to 3 additional points
Maximum points possible in one game is 8. 5 points for winning, 3 points for 3 goals.
Both coaches must confer following the game to confirm the game score. Both coaches then report the score to the Scorer's Table after each game. Doing so speeds up the tally, keeps everyone informed and affords the most time to catch mistakes.
Points are totaled for each team during the tournament. The team with the most points after the last game takes first place. In the event of a tie, tie breakers are determined as follows:
Head-to-head win/lose
Number of wins
Number of goals scored
Number of goals allowed
If still tied after these four comparisons, first and second place teams will play a sudden death game.
